Day 2: A place to call home

Today I am grateful for...

The roof over my head.

I am so thankful to merely have a home to keep me warm in the Alaskan winters and to plant my roots and grow. In addition to that, I'm even more grateful that it is the beautiful new home that we bought in September!

Back View!
We have been hard at work to make it a comfortable and homey place, which is turning out to take a while! The house has 4 bedrooms and we moved from a house that we only used one. That equals no bedroom furniture! I have amazing parents who have helped us furnish the house with beds they no longer use, so we now have beds in three of the four bedrooms!  The only one that is not ready yet is baby's room... But we have plenty of time for that! And I know baby won't actually sleep in his crib until he's a little older, so we can take our time!

If you have a place to call home, consider yourself blessed!

Moving and Running in the Rain!

We have officially moved into our new house!  On Sunday we recruited our awesome friends and family to help move across town.  It all went smoothly and you'll be happy to hear I didn't lift too many boxes (even though it was so hard not to help!). I just watched as the guys lifted gigantic boxes and our piano up the stairs!

Moral Support.
The main event was unpacking our kitchen.  I never realized how much planning is involved in organizing a kitchen!  It took 4 women to figure out where to put something as simple as the silverware!  But I'm happy to say we got it all figured out and the kitchen looks amazing.  The rest of the house, however... is still covered in boxes. I'll get around to them soon!

I'll take pictures once the house doesn't look like a warzone, but I wanted to share 3 of my favorite parts of the house so far:

Hot water at my beck and call.  Tea, hot cocoa, coffee... one happy Brittany.
I love my pantry.
Doesn't get much better than this.
My life these days consists of cleaning, trying to re-potty train Diego (apparently moving is hard on a puppy), staring at my beautiful pantry, and slowly unpacking the countless stacks of boxes in every room.  Does anyone know how two people accumulate so much junk?  My goal is to be all settled by next week.  Ambitious?  Yes.  But I start work in 9 days and would love to feel slightly more situated!

Alaska is in the middle of one of the rainiest falls I can remember.  I guess that's what happens when you have the nicest and warmest summer in history.  I love running in the rain, but today was a little bit miserable.  When your feet literally slosh every step you take, your fingers are numb from the cold wind, and you can't see out of your eyes because of the rain flooding in them... that's probably the exact opposite of fun.
Holy Mushrooms.
Running and taking pictures with frozen fingers = blurrrrryyyy picture. Sorry.

Luckily I was with my favorite running buddy and we managed to do 8 hilly and soaking miles!  This week my energy seems to have made it's reappearance so I am taking advantage of it!  It finally feels great to run!  We'll see how long that lasts with this growing belly of mine :)

Balancing Act

I have a riddle for you:

What does all of this equal?

1 new graduate PA on the job hunt +
1 new puppy +
Planning a wedding reception +
Buying a new house +
Selling our house =

One word. Craziness.

Some people might say its a good idea to space out the big life events. Ya know, take it one at a time, enjoy these special moments. You know what I say? Nope. Forget that. Pile that plate until its overflowing then add on another stack.

Jake and I weren't planning to buy a house so soon, but let's face it, the interest rates are on the rise and now's the time to buy! That, and we found the perfect place! It will be so hard to leave our cute little first home; as much as Jake refuses to believe, I truly love our little casita!

Time to move out and up! We're very excited and even more fortunate to have this opportunity!

So operation: "Sell This House" is in full swing and we've been working day and night (okay, mostly Jake, but I cook delicious food for sustenance) to update and make it move-in ready for buyers! Say some prayers we find the perfect buyer!

Why the wedding reception, you ask? Well, Jake and I didn't have a formal wedding with both of our families and friends present, so we decided to have a giant fiesta this winter to celebrate and renew our vows!

Picture this... Christmas colors, twinkly lights, smell of pine trees, hot chocolate bar, crazy dance party, and the most delicious food imaginable. Cannot wait.

So obviously this high-rise plate of mine is taking away precious blogging time, but I will do my best to keep updating!

If you have any suggestions for moving, puppy training, or Christmas wedding ideas, please let me know!
